What is the role of a tutor?

Many parents choose to make use of the services of independent tutors to assist their children on their learning journey. Please note:

  1. The parent remains primarily responsible for their child’s education. A tutor may not take over this role.
  2. A tutor may offer subject-specific support and administrative guidance.
  3. A tutor centre, homeschooling centre, learning centre, cottage school, etc. is NOT a school and may not act or operate as a school. Under current legislation, these are considered illegal schools.  This is considered under the current South African law as an illegal school.
  4. Tutors registered with Impaq are independent businesses, not owned, managed or monitored by Impaq. It is the parent’s responsibility to enquire regarding the skills and qualifications a tutor may (or may not) have. Because tutors are not regulated in South Africa, no guidelines currently exist in terms of a tutor’s qualifications and therefore, even if registered with Impaq, the tutor may not necessarily be a qualified teacher.
  5. A tutor's registration with Impaq only entails the registration to make use of our products and services in support of Impaq-registered learners. Tutors, therefore, have access to our online platforms with selected access to assessments and assessment services. This is not monitored or regulated by Impaq, as the parent remains the responsible entity.
  6. For Grades 10 to 12, the parent remains responsible for their child’s education and tutors may still offer subject-specific support, but tutors are not registered with an assessment body and can therefore not take over any responsibility.
  7. Parents enter into a separate contract with a tutor for the provision of tutoring support. This contract is not part of your agreement with Impaq.
