What are the pass requirements for Grades 10 to 12?

Learning targets must be met throughout the year, which contribute to a learner's year mark or SBA. This mark is calculated by combining various continuous assessment components. In the language subjects and certain practical subjects, there are critical components (orals and practical tasks) that must be completed. The assessment components are weighted and combined, as determined by CAPS, to calculate the final year mark.

Please refer to the Assessment Information for Grades 10 to 12, available to download from the Optimi Learning Portal, for more detail.

Grade 12 final NSC exam
Please take note that Umalusi places great emphasis on the final examination mark. Downward adjustments may be made from time to time in instances where the SBA and the mark obtained in the final examination differ significantly. Therefore, always consider that the 25% contribution in terms of the SBA is to a maximum of 25%, and this is amended at Umalusi's discretion, based on the learner's final examination marks.
