What is the National Senior Certificate (NSC)?

The National Senior Certificate (NSC) is the school-leaving certificate presently awarded to learners who have successfully completed twelve years of formal schooling and is commonly known as the matriculation certificate. The NSC, previously known as the Further Education and Training Certificate (FETC), replaced the Senior Certificate with effect from 2008, and was phased in starting with Grade 10 in 2006.

Learners study at least seven subjects, including two compulsory South African languages, either Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy, Life Orientation and three elective subjects.

Learners who successfully complete their Grade 12 year with Impaq, and comply with the relevant assessment and other related requirements, will receive the National Senior Certificate from Umalusi.
