Who marks the assessments for Grades 1 to 3?
As the parent/guardian, you may mark Grade 1 to 3 assessments. Marks must be captured on the Optimi Learning Portal. It is in the best interest of the learner for the parent to ensure that the results of the assessment tasks are valid and reliable by implementing measures such as the invigilation of the learner during the process of completing the tasks.
The parent/guardian should monitor the progress of the learner between Grades R to 9, and they should keep a record of the learner’s progress, which should be available upon request. They should also submit the reports at the end of Grades 3, 6, and 9 to the Head of the Department at their Provincial Department of Education.
At the end of Grade 3, the learner must be formally assessed. Term 4 assessments should be assessed by a competent assessor (qualified teacher).
