Who marks the tests, tasks and exams for Grades 4 to 9?

Grade 4 to 9 assessments can be marked by the parent/guardian or tutor using the memorandums provided. Marks should be captured on the Optimi Learning Portal.

It is in the best interest of the learner for the parent/guardian to ensure that the results of the assessment tasks, such as tests and examinations, are valid and reliable by implementing measures such as invigilating the learner while completing the assessment tasks. The parent/guardian should monitor the progress of the learner between Grades 1 to 9, and they should keep a record of the learner’s progress, which should be available upon request. They should also submit the reports at the end of Grades 3, 6, and 9 to the Head of the Department at their Provincial Department of Education.

Learners must also be formally assessed by a competent assessor (qualified teacher) at the end of Grades 6 and 9. These assessments are presented as the November/year-end examinations. Parents have the option to enlist a private assessor.
